I often find the TV tuned to MTV and VH1. A lot of the time, no one is watching mind you. But the TV is tuned to the music video channels. It’s tuned to mindless, thoughtless programming. Programming designed to suck one in to the evil time-wasting preoccupation.
And last night I found one such time-waster in the form of Newlyweds (I think that’s the name of it), the show on MTV about Jessica Simpson. I have three words for this show.
Oh. My. Gah.
Yes, gah.
In this episode of the show, Jessica says, “Oh my gah!” every few minutes. Or worse, she just simply says, “Gah!” Apparently this was Jessica's "new thing" and an effort to avoid saying "god." Anyway, she drove Nick and the other couple in the episode nuts. They kept telling her to shut up.
The show was only thirty minutes long, but in addition to driving everyone nuts by saying “Gah” every few minutes, she was also a total maniac while pumping gasoline for her car. She also pouted at home, in the car, on the ski slope, and in the cabin where they stayed. And if that wasn’t enough, we then had the opportunity to see her cut a chicken breast with kitchen scissors. Apparently, she thought the original chicken breast was too thick.
I watched with amazement, as I have never seen so much madness packed into such a short amount of time. I don’t think there’s any danger of me getting hooked on that show.
That's what happens when a fifteen year old gets ahold of the remote control.
