While setting goals for the new year, I took some time to review my goals from last year. While I'm relatively happy with the progress I made in working towards those goals, I didn't complete all of my goals. In reviewing the goals I think part of my problem is in the wording or phrasing of some of the goals. Setting attainable goals is key in being able to accomplish goals; however, many of my goals from last year were too general or too broad in scope. In most instances I had tough goals (sometimes too tough), but some of the goals wouldn't be much of a stretch. It has to be realistic and there has to be a balance, you know.
My knitting goals from last year were too specific and the list too long, while my goals for this year (mentioned in the last post) were probably too general and not much of a stretch. To correct this deficiency, I decided to review my finished project list from last year in hopes of establishing better goals for 2007.
Projects Completed in 2006:
9 squares for the Warming Grace project
5 pairs of socks
5 X-mas stockings
4 scarves
4 ballband dishcloths
2 baby blankets
2 felted bags
1 sweater
1 hat
1 pair of baby booties
1 teeny tiny baby hat
Revised Knitting Goals for 2007
While I still plan to knit from my existing stash, I would like to complete the following:
- Knit 10 pairs of socks (I love hand knit socks and would like to expand my sock drawer.)
- Knit 10 X-mas stockings (I plan to start early on the holiday knitting this year.)
- Knit 6 scarves (I love scarves--can't have too many scarves.)
- Knit 2 sweaters (This goal goes hand in hand with finally meeting my fitness goals from last year.)
- Knit 2 lace projects (I love lace, but I generally lack the focus needed to work on lace projects, so I think this is a good goal for expanding my knitting abilities.)
- Knit 1 cable project (Inspired by the Fiona Ellis workshop I attended in the fall.)
- Knit 1 stranded project (This goal was influenced in part by Marina.)
I think my new goals are better in that they inspire me to grow as a knitter and they're still doable. I shouldn't have any trouble completing those projects.
That's better! Thank you for including a stranded project. Yell, if you want to borrow a book.
#1 ... I just "cheated" and purchased 9 pairs of woolly socks ;-) Maybe the "Favorite Socks" I've pre-ordered will tempt me to attempt socks again!

That sounds like a great list - really spans the realm of knitting and will provide plenty of challenge and still plenty of flexibility.
