Many moons ago, I was interviewing for the position I considered to be my big break into my chosen field, when I was asked if I was willing to travel. It was phrased in a manner that portrayed that the answer would be key in the decision making process as to whether I would be considered and offered the position or not. I'm pretty much a home body, but I really wanted the new job, so without missing a beat, I agreed to travel.
At that time, The Hubby was in a position where he could have joined me in some of the travel, so I knew I could have company if I felt that the destination required it. Of course, as luck would have it, three months later he was offered what he considered his big break into his chosen field--a position where it was no longer possible to call his own shots so there would be no travel for him.
So, with the exception of a few trips with some of my team members and friends, I mostly traveled alone and learned to appreciate it actually. During my travels, someone once asked me what American City was my favorite to visit. The answer?
Boston, baby! I love all the history. I love that there's so much to see. I love all the shops and restaurants. I love that the public transportation system makes it so easy to get around. I love all the architecture and art.
In a rather surprising turn of events, it seems that we at the Knit Once blog will be taking a little trip to Boston next month. The trip will be part business related and all fun. And the Hubby can actually join me because he just happens to be on vacation that week. This will be my second visit and his first visit. There's so much to see and do that I can't wait!!!!
We usually plan a tentative itinerary and print out information on a few things here and there that we might want to see. Typically, I swear by this laid back approach versus planning a "hard" itinerary when in a new city as I think that usually works out best, but I have a feeling that this trip will be all planned out well in advance. I keep visiting Web sites and adding new things to the do and see folder. I have a feeling that our itinerary and information folder may span an entire suitcase.
On the list so far? The Freedom Trail, of course. Ye Olde Union Oyster House. A Red Sox game. Some places that a coworker told me about, but I left the sticky note on my desk at work. AND three yarn stores that are conveniently located close to our hotel.
Boston, baby! I can't wait!!!!
Update #1: Just had the thought that having an entire suitcase for the itinerary and information folder might be a good plan after all--When we're done with the papers, I can fill the suitcase with yarn from all the yarn stores I'm finding in Boston. Just can't tell The Hubby about this plan until the yarn is in the suitcase! =)
Update #2: The Google Street View feature you've no doubt seen and read about? I likey!!!!!! I see why some people feel that it's very intrusive, but I can definitely see where it could come in handy too. It takes mapping out your trip or vacation that one step further, which is why Google is going to rule the world some day. World domination? Google. Still lovin' the Street View feature, though!
For the past few years, I thought that Boston was my favourite US city but now that I've been to NYC, Boston comes in second but still first for history!
